In this literature lesson, we will learn about the experience of being an immigrant stuck between the East and the West. We will learn about the relationship and bond between mother and daughter and the different ways love with a cultural biased is expressed.
English language aquisition: Listening comprehension, vocabulary expansion, reading comprehension and literary analysis.
Other benchmarks Include; An appreciation for literature and culture
Emotional Intelligence skills built include; empathy, identification of feeling of oneself and others, ability to express ones feelings, problem solving and diplomacy (mediating between groups).

This story is about a young Chinese-American girl who is growing up with the pressures of a traditional Chinese family in America. This story is the story of how she finds her own path. It takes place in China Town San Francisco, CA: a place in which the Chinese tried to preserve their traditions while accomodating change. What examplesof Chinese-American acclimation are presented in the documentary? How did the Chinese-American community preserve tradition while embracing change?

While we all live in Israel, we also come from many different places. We may share the same living space but we all live very differently. We come from different cultures and backgrounds that express their traditions uniquely. Where does your family come from and what unique traditions has your family preserved? What traditions do you honor in your family? What about your family makes you proud? Does family traditions ever conflict with "Israeli" values? Write about yourself as member of your family, as a member of Israeli society and as unique individual. How have you found your own path?
